Reading Wrap Up: May 2016

Hey everyone! Today I am going to talking about the books that I have read this month! This was a little hectic when it came to my reading because not only did I have finals and I moved out of my dorm, but I also started working (basically full time) so my time for reading has been very limited; however, I'm very pleased with what I was able to read this month, considering I haven't been able to read a ton over my break so far.

So here is an overview of what I have read this month. I read a total of 8 books in the month of May, and that does not include the books that I started reading, but I didn't get to finish. Eight books may seem like a very tiny number compared to what a lot of people can read, but because I didn't finish my first book of the month until two weeks into May, I am very happy!

This month I had two rereads! Even though these books don't really count towards my ever growing TBR, I had an amazing time rereading them! I found that when I went back and reread the first two graphic novels of Saga I enjoyed them so much more than the first time.

 Saga Vol. 1 - 5/5 stars (reread)
○ Saga Vol. 2 - 5 stars (reread)
○ Saga Vol. 3 - 4 stars

My buddy read with Sierra this month was The Unexpected Everything! I was beyond excited to read this book, and I found myself to have some mixed feelings in the beginning, but overall I was not disappointed even though I did have some issues with it. I have a review of this book that will be posted on my blog pretty soon, and I will link it when it is posted!

I also read Wintergirls which has been on my to-read list for the longest time. I haven't owned it for that long, but I have been wanting to pick up something else by Laurie Halse Anderson since I read Speak over 5 years ago. It was my first read of the month, and I read it in one sitting!

The last book I completed in May was The One by Kiera Cass. I have finally completed the TRILOGY. I know that its not a trilogy anyone and that there are two other books, but truthfully, I DO NOT plan on read the other books and I hopefully can pretend that they don't actually exist. I enjoyed the Selection Trilogy in many ways. I found it entertaining, quick, and thoughtless at times, and that was exactly what I was wanting while reading them. Though, I really enjoyed reading the series I know that I will never go back to them. This series is one of the series that so drama filled that the first time its fun like watching reality tv, but not something I want to look back on.

○ The Unexpected Everything - 4/5 stars
○ Wintergirls - 4/5 stars
○ The One - 4/5 stars

My favorite book of the month was hands down A Court of Thorns and Roses! This book had my heart on edge the entire time I was reading it! I found the book to be so refreshing, and I think that it is because the book is a new adult fantasy! I loved that these characters were closer to my age the other books that I read. The Fae have quickly become one of my favorite creatures to read about because these Fae were so unique! I adored this book, and I cannot wait to read A Court of Mist and Fury!!

○ A Court of Thorns and Roses - 5/5 stars

And sadly, my most dissapointing book of the month was The Kiss of Deceotion... I was so upset by how disspointed I was by this book. I loved the world and the writing and found it to be so new and nothing like anything I had ever read, but the book was so slow that I found it hard to want to pick it up. The thing that really got me with this book was that I didn't feel emotionally connected to any of the characters, and anyone that knows me or has seen some of my reviews knows that if I don't like the characters then the book is not going to get a good review from me. I also found the plot twist to actually infurriate me, and made me change how I thought of the characters that I actually thought I had a connection with.

I do plan on countining the series, but I don't know how soon I am going to pick up the next book.

○ The Kiss of Deception - 3/5 stars

What did you read this month? What was your favorite/least favorite?

  1. I loved the entire Selection series, except for The Heir. Do not waste your time on it because I cannot fathom how Maxon and America produced such an annoying, selfish, entitled brat. Ugh. It's been such a long time since I read Wintergirls but I really enjoyed it. Speak was better, in my opinion though. And I agree about The Kiss of Deception. I got the sequel for Christmas but still have to read it because I just can't get excited about it :/ I'm hoping it's better than the first but, like you, I didn't connect to any of the characters. And I also figured out the whole plot twist straight away.

    1. I am so glad someone else feels this way about the Kiss of Deception! My friend Sierra didn't even finish it, but it feels good that there is another person who has completely finished it that wasn't really a fan. I really dislike overhyped books because it takes all my enjoyment out of them when I do read them.
I also liked Speak more than Wintergirls, but I still enjoyed it. I'm excited to read more form Laurie Halse Anderson.

    2. I'm the same about hyped books - my curiosity gets the better of me but 9 times out of 10 I'm left thinking 'THIS is what people are going crazy about?!' It does make me question if people are being totally honest about things, especially when they've been sent the book by the author or publisher.
I like that she tackles more taboo subjects in her books (I like it when anyone does haha) so I definitely want to pick up more of her stuff.

  2. ACOTAR!!!! <3 I'm so glad that you loved it. I am so glad that I DNFed The Kiss of Deception because it just does not seem worth the read. Yeah, for the most part I liked The Unexpected Everything but I had issues with it and felt kinda let down. I'll definitely have to pick up Saga some time- with limited expectations of course. XD

    1. I AM IN LOVE WITH IT AND I NEVER WANT IT TO STOP.
I really wish I would have listened to you about the Kiss of Deception because it really wasn't worth the time I spent on it!
      AND YES SAGA

  3. To be honest I kind of wish I hadn't read the last two books in the selection series. I loved how The One ended and The Heir just ruined it for me. This series proved that some things should just be left finished.
